So here's another special South by Southwest edition of RIA Weekly, as I recall we call it. This is, of course, Ryan Stewart that you see. Behind the camera. We'll introduce each other. And so you were about to test out something for, I guess, a session you were going to have. And so tell us what we're about to see. So for the session tomorrow, basically what I wanted to do is there's kind of an undercurrent in the Flash community that's doing a lot with augmented reality. And there's this guy in Japan who's created a library so you can take a pattern like this and start overlaying things on top of it. So what I'm going to do is show a really basic example of how this works. I'm going to use the webcam that I've got. And you sort of have, like, I mean, I guess, you know, it's an obviously sort of very unique symbol thing. That would be easy for a computer to recognize. Basically, the way the library works is you tell it, you create the symbol and tell it what symbol it's supposed to look for, and then you just draw random shapes on top of that, you know, use the library to draw using Pay-Per-Vision 3D, which is a 3D library for Flash, to draw 3D shapes on top of it. Once the web camera and the Flash player detected this shape. Right, right. So. All right, well, shall we see it in action? Yes, let's check it out. So we've got your screen there. And then, so what you can see, we'll get in close here. That actually is kind of, that's kind of cool. So as I tilt it, you know, it detects where the shape is, it detects what's moving on the shape, and then draws the cube appropriately, it rotates the cube appropriately. And thus, you're augmenting reality. Exactly. That's the augmented reality thing. Here's my reality, and here's the augmentation. So that is actually pretty cool, but like, so other than looking cool, like, what do you do with that? I have no idea. What I'm going to do with it is, my session on tomorrow, what I'm going to do is try to use this to pop up a little flex component. That'll then let me call a phone number. Huh. That's completely useless. I guess that is kind of, there would be an interesting way, instead of using just a mouse, you could use other things as sort of like an input device, right? Yeah, yeah, exactly.

What would be kind of cool, and I wanted to show, but I don't know how to do multiple patterns, is you just flash like a business card up there. Oh, right. And it'll call, it'll automatically dial the business card number. Right, right, right. It wouldn't recognize the number, but it would recognize the pattern. It would recognize the barcode or whatever. Exactly, yeah, and then it'd be like, call mom. Right, right. Huh. Yeah, so yeah. Well, that's interesting. Thanks. No problem. Thank you.
