Door de mand vallen.
Door de mand vallen. — Literally: to fall through the basket.
Meaning: to be found out - your bluff collapses and everyone sees it. This one is still ordinary spoken Dutch, not a museum piece. Note that it takes zijn in the perfect, not hebben, because vallen is a verb of motion: hij is door de mand gevallen.
Bij de eerste vraag viel hij door de mand. — At the very first question he was found out.
